I think that when her contact stopped with her dad she mustn’t have remained in contact with her father’s extended family either. I’m under the impression from interviews that he remarried a woman called Ruby and they had two daughters together, meaning Alfred had two half sisters. Her paternal grandfather didn’t look black, and was of Venezuelan descent, meaning he could’ve been a combination of things.

This may be the reason why her answer about her Venezuelan heritage seemed to change.as she most likely didn’t have the full facts. Mariah only met her paternal grandfather when she was 6. Mariah’s parents divorced when she was 3.from what I can gather Alfred Roy’s parents split when he was young and he didn’t have a relationship with his father. They just don’t know each other that well. I’ve always been fascinated with Mimi’s family background as it all does seem mysterious! I can only just assume from an interview she gave around the charmbracelet era that when her father passed, they all met at her step grandmothers house where Mariah reconnected with extended relatives she’d either hadn’t seen since her childhood years or hadn’t even met full stop. I'm sure her grandmother had siblings who had children. I find it odd that there are no black family members that have popped up at all. I read Natalie's first bio and she said their family's real surname is Coles but that her dad dropped the s. She did once say she was looking into seeing if she was related to Nat King Cole because her grandmother was a Cole. I have never heard her mention an aunt, uncle or even cousin. Did Alfred have any siblings? Didn't Mariah say that her paternal grandfather changed his name from Nunez to Carey upon relocating from Venezuela? I believe I saw a picture of Alfred (her father) and his mother (a black woman) but that is about it. I know she said her mother's family disowned her when she married a black man. For her to be such a huge star there isn't much known about either side of her family.
